SIBU – In a concerted effort to bolster road safety and enforce transport regulations, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak, through its Sibu branch, collaborated with the Stapang Enforcement Station (SP), the Sibu National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK), and the Sibu Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP) in a comprehensive cross-agency operation.
The joint initiative took place on Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman in Sibu on 29 July 2026. This coordinated operation involved the inspection of 612 vehicles across various categories.
Officials uncovered multiple infringements, including the use of HID and LED lights that did not meet regulatory standards, absence of valid driving licences, expired licences, failure to wear seat belts, and other technical violations related to vehicle conditions.
As a result, 153 notices of non-compliance were issued to offenders. Additionally, authorities seized one car and two motorcycles due to expired Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM) and lack of insurance coverage. All enforcement actions adhered strictly to existing legal provisions.
Parallel to the vehicle inspections, AADK Sibu conducted urine tests on 28 individuals during the operation. Six individuals tested positive for methamphetamine.
Those affected included a lorry driver, two lorry attendants, a motorcyclist, and two car drivers. Subsequent measures were taken by AADK in line with their jurisdictional responsibilities.
LPKP Sibu, meanwhile, reported no cases falling under its regulatory scope during this operation.
JPJ Sarawak has publicly acknowledged the cooperation and dedication demonstrated by AADK Sibu and LPKP Sibu.
The department emphasised that such collaborative efforts are vital for improving compliance with road laws, curbing drug abuse, and safeguarding all road users in Sarawak.
The operation signals a continued commitment to integrated enforcement strategies, with agencies working in unison to enhance public safety and uphold the law.
