SIBU – A significant step towards environmental conservation was taken in the central region of Sarawak as a joint tree planting initiative brought together state utility providers and forestry officials.
The programme, organised in collaboration with Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) specifically from the Sungai Merah Power Station, took place at the Pelala Communal Forest on the morning of Thursday, 30 July 2026.
The event saw the successful planting of three hundred saplings, marking a tangible contribution to the green cover of the area. The species selected for this reforestation effort included gelam, resak, and kapur trees.
These native species are chosen not only for their ecological value but also for their resilience and suitability to the local tropical climate, ensuring higher survival rates and long-term benefits for the ecosystem.
A total of eighty-two participants joined forces for the morning’s activities. The workforce comprised staff members from Sarawak Energy Berhad as well as officers from the Sibu Regional Forest Office.
