Kota Samarahan Water Disruption After 800mm Main Pipe Leak

KOTA SAMARAHAN – Water supply in parts of Kota Samarahan and several areas served by the Samarahan division of the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) has been disrupted following a leak involving an 800mm main water pipe near Aiman Mall.

Sarawak Water said the leak occurred on 10 August 2026 and was linked to construction works associated with the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project in the area.

The incident has resulted in interruptions to water supply as well as low water pressure for consumers in several parts of Kota Samarahan.

Among the affected locations are Jalan Datuk Mohammad Musa, Taman Desa Ilmu and surrounding areas.

The disruption has also affected the distribution of treated water from Sarawak Water to the JBALB Samarahan area.

As a result, consumers in several locations supplied through the affected distribution network may also experience interruptions to their water supply.

The areas identified as affected include Tambirat, Asajaya, Sadong Jaya, Sebangan, Sebuyau and Simunjan.

Sarawak Water has deployed its technical team to the affected location to begin repair works.

The team is working to address the damaged section of the main pipe and restore the affected water supply as soon as possible.

Water tankers have also been sent to areas where temporary water supply assistance is required.

The emergency response is being carried out in coordination with JBALB, KUTS and other relevant agencies.

The cooperation between the agencies is intended to ensure that repair activities can be conducted safely while minimising the duration and impact of the disruption on consumers.

Sarawak Water said restoration of the water supply will take place in stages once repair works have been completed.

However, consumers may not receive normal water pressure immediately after the repair is finished.

The water distribution system needs to stabilise before supply can return to normal across all affected locations.

The time required for restoration may differ from one area to another depending on local conditions within the distribution network.

Consumers in elevated locations and areas located towards the end of the water distribution system may experience a longer restoration period.

This is because water pressure and flow may take additional time to return to stable levels in such locations.

Residents and businesses in the affected areas are therefore advised to allow time for the system to recover following completion of the repair works.

Sarawak Water said it understands the inconvenience caused by the disruption and has apologised to affected consumers.

The utility also thanked members of the public for their patience and cooperation while repair and restoration efforts are underway.

The incident has affected both direct Sarawak Water consumers in parts of Kota Samarahan and the treated water distribution serving the JBALB Samarahan area.

The affected areas cover several communities across the Samarahan region, making coordination between the agencies involved an important part of the response.

Sarawak Water said it will continue working with the relevant authorities throughout the repair process.

Further updates on the condition of the damaged main pipe, progress of the repair works and restoration of water supply will be communicated through Sarawak Water’s official communication channels.

Consumers in affected areas are advised to follow the latest announcements and updates issued by the utility.

The utility’s technical teams will continue with the necessary works until the damaged main pipe is repaired and the distribution system is sufficiently stable for water supply to be restored.

Until then, temporary water tankers will provide assistance in locations where additional water supply support is needed.

The disruption highlights the importance of close coordination between water supply authorities and infrastructure project agencies when works are being carried out around existing utility networks.

For affected consumers, normal water supply is expected to return progressively after the repair is completed and the system regains stable pressure.
