KUCHING: Pertubuhan Kebajikan Islam Malaysia (PERKIM) Sarawak is targeting about 800 participants for its Retro Zumba Aerodance 2026, which will be held at the Perkarangan MASJA, Petra Jaya, on Sept 13.
The event will begin at 6am and will be held in conjunction with the Petra Jaya Car Free Morning programme, organised with the cooperation and support of Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Utara (DBKU).
PERKIM Sarawak said the collaboration would provide an opportunity for the organisation to reach out to more members of the public while promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.
The organisation also expressed its appreciation to Kuching North City Commission Mayor Datuk Hilmy Haji Othman for his support and cooperation towards the programme.
The event will also receive support from Sarawak Daily as the official media partner, helping to promote the programme and raise public awareness about its charitable objectives.
This will be the second time PERKIM Sarawak is organising a Zumba event. Previously, the organisation conducted a Fun Run and Half Marathon for two consecutive years as part of its efforts to diversify its fundraising activities.
PERKIM Sarawak said the funds raised through the programme would be channelled towards charitable and educational activities carried out by its 24 branches throughout Sarawak.
Among the causes supported by PERKIM Sarawak is the Laila Stroke Care Centre, which provides physiotherapy sessions for post-stroke patients at affordable rates.
The centre requires continuous funding to maintain a comfortable environment and ensure that physiotherapy services remain accessible to patients, particularly those from less fortunate backgrounds.
The upcoming Zumba Aerodance is therefore expected to serve a dual purpose by encouraging the public to stay active while supporting a meaningful charitable cause.
To add more excitement to the event, participants will also have the opportunity to take part in a lucky draw at the end of the Zumba session. Surprise prizes will also be prepared for participants.
Organisers are encouraging participants to come dressed in their best retro outfits as the event will carry a Retro Theme. The theme is intended to create a more enjoyable and colourful atmosphere while adding a fun element to the morning exercise programme.
PERKIM Sarawak hopes the event will attract more than its initial target of 800 participants, including both members and non-members.

The Retro Zumba Aerodance 2026 is expected to bring together the community for an energetic morning at Petra Jaya while helping PERKIM Sarawak continue its welfare and educational work across the state.
The event will be officiated by a guest who will be announced by the organisers.
