KUCHING, Aug 10, 2026: Several dancers who took part in the inaugural Unity Dance Challenge (UDC) 2026 in Kuching have earned opportunities to compete in the 28th TDS Dance Competition in Kuala Lumpur next year.
The achievement marks a significant milestone for the young dancers, who took part in the one-and-a-half-day competition organised by the Kuching Unity Dance Association (KUDA).
The competition brought together dancers from Malaysia, Indonesia and Macao, providing participants with an opportunity to showcase their skills and gain valuable experience on stage.
Two UDC competitors have been selected as Sarawak finalists for the 28th TDS Dance Competition, which is scheduled to take place in June 2027.
They are SWB 303 Chai Yu Xuan and SWB 101 Annalisa Lao Lik Xin.
Their selection gives them the opportunity to represent Sarawak at the upcoming competition and further develop their experience in the competitive dance scene.
Meanwhile, eight UDC competitors have been invited to participate in the TDS preliminary competition in Kuala Lumpur next year.
The invited dancers are SWB 501 Aurelea Ang Xiaau Juo, SWB 502 Cayenne Chong, SWB 503 Chew Jia Yuan, SWB 402 Jacey Chin Wincy, SWB 305 Klarisse Kee Ying Rou, SWB 307 Lim Thong Ern, SWB 308 Priscilla Rhema Justin and SWB 201 Annabelle Pui En Na.
As part of the invitation, their RM450 enrolment fee for the preliminary competition will be waived.
The opportunities were announced following UDC 2026, further highlighting the platform provided by the inaugural competition for dancers to gain exposure and progress to higher-level competitions.
Two dancers were also selected for the Sunny Chan’s Award, which provides free entry to the 28th TDS Dance Competition preliminary in Kuala Lumpur in June 2027.
In the ballet category, the recipients are BS137 Liliew Ann Ni and BS135 Gwendolyn Kueh Wern Lyn.
For contemporary dance, the award went to SWB201 Annabelle Pui En Na.
The special awards recognise selected dancers from UDC and provide them with opportunities to continue their development through participation in the TDS competition.
Another UDC dancer, SWB308 Priscilla Rhema Justin, received the WanChin’s Award.
The award will cover her return flight to Kuala Lumpur to participate in the 28th TDS Dance Competition preliminary in June 2027.
The recognition represents another important opportunity for the young dancer and adds to the growing list of achievements from the inaugural UDC.
The results also reflect the efforts of the dancers, who have spent considerable time preparing and rehearsing for their performances.
Behind their achievements are also the dedication of their teachers and the support of parents, who have played an important role in helping the young dancers pursue their passion.
The inaugural Unity Dance Challenge was organised by KUDA with the aim of providing dancers with a platform to grow, connect and inspire one another through dance.

The participation of dancers from Malaysia, Indonesia and Macao added an international dimension to the Kuching event.
