Three Men Remanded in Sungai Tapang Murder Case Investigation

KUCHING, Dec 2, 2024 — Three men, aged between 21 and 25, have been remanded in connection with the murder of a 22-year-old man in an apartment at Sungai Tapang. The Magistrate’s Court approved the remand order today to facilitate further investigations into the tragic incident that has shocked the local community.

Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan approved a seven-day remand for two of the suspects, while the third will be held for four days, ending on December 6, 2024. The application for the remand was presented by Assistant Investigating Officer Mohd Safuan Mohd Nasir.

The suspects arrived at the Kuching Court around 9:22 a.m., dressed in purple police lockup attire, and were escorted out at approximately 11:26 a.m.

Murder Case Details

Padawan District Police Chief Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi stated that the motive behind the crime is still under investigation. Preliminary findings suggest the incident involved a fight at the apartment.

“Police received information about the fight at around 4:40 a.m. yesterday. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the lifeless body of a 22-year-old man in one of the apartment’s rooms. The victim had multiple cuts on his body and was confirmed dead by medical personnel at the scene,” said Mohd Irwan in a statement.

The suspects were arrested shortly after the discovery of the victim’s body. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty upon conviction.
