Sarawak's Airline to Connect State to Six International Destinations

Sarawak’s Airline to Connect State to Six International Destinations

KUCHING, Dec 3 – Sarawak is set to soar into the skies with its own airline connecting the state to six international destinations, including Frankfurt in Germany, following the acquisition of MASwings.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced that other destinations include Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Bangkok (Thailand), and Jakarta (Indonesia). This bold move aims to boost tourism and strengthen Sarawak’s global connections.

Speaking at the Excellent Service Award (APC) and Appreciation Dinner at Damai Beach Resort, the Premier highlighted that the Sarawak government plans to purchase new aircraft to serve these routes once the acquisition is finalized, likely this month.

“My dream destinations are Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Jakarta, and Frankfurt. These flights will bring tourists to Sarawak, giving them a chance to enjoy our unique cuisine like ‘kolo mee’ while making the routes popular among travelers,” he said.

Sarawak is expected to finalize its purchase of MASwings, a regional airline under Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), by December. A new name for the Sarawak-owned airline will also be revealed soon, promising a fresh identity to support the state’s tourism and economic aspirations.

Premier Abang Johari emphasized that this development aligns with Sarawak’s broader vision to strengthen infrastructure and tourism. By 2035, Sarawak aims to compete globally as a preferred destination for business and leisure.

During the event, the Premier presented Excellent Service Awards to 14 officers and recognized retirees for their contributions. Among the notable attendees were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Sarawak Financial Secretary Dato Sri Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, and Deputy Sarawak Financial Secretary Datu Hasmawati Sapawi.
