KANOWIT, Dec 20 – Ten students and their parents were safely rescued after being stranded this morning when floodwaters cut off access along Jalan Ulu Pedai, Kanowit.

The Kanowit Fire and Rescue Department (BBP Kanowit) received the emergency call at 9.14 am. A swift response team led by PBK II Yusof Morni was deployed to the site, located approximately 40km from the fire station. They reached the area at 9.57 am.

Upon arrival, the team found that floodwaters had risen to about four feet, submerging a 300-foot stretch of the road. The trapped individuals were unable to cross the flooded area, prompting immediate action.

The rescue operation was a collaborative effort involving three firefighter personnel and three officers from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). Equipped with personal floating devices (PFDs), the team carefully escorted the stranded group across the submerged road.

“Safety was our top priority. Despite the challenges, we ensured that everyone was evacuated without incident,” said a spokesperson from BBP Kanowit.

The operation successfully concluded at 11.10 am, with all individuals safely returning home. No injuries were reported.
