SARATOK: A heroic act by a Melaka-born doctor averted potential disaster in Saratok Hospital’s children’s ward early Thursday morning when he swiftly extinguished a fire before it could spread.

Dr. Muhammad Zulhusni Muhammad Damanhuri, 32, displayed remarkable composure and quick thinking upon noticing flames emanating from an exhaust fan in the ward’s toilet. Acting without hesitation, he used a dry powder fire extinguisher to douse the fire, ensuring the safety of everyone present.

At the time of the incident, three nurses and two young patients, each accompanied by their mothers, were in the ward. Thanks to Dr. Zulhusni’s rapid response, no one was injured, and the situation was brought under control before it could escalate.

The Saratok Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received a distress call at 7.22 am and immediately dispatched a team to the scene, located approximately 5km away. However, upon their arrival, the fire had already been extinguished by Dr. Zulhusni.

Firefighters conducted a thorough inspection of the area to ensure there were no lingering threats before wrapping up the operation at 8.02 am.
