Sibu Cops Bust Suspected Drug Trafficker in RM86,000 Seizure

SIBU (Jan 17): A major drug bust unfolded in Sibu as police arrested a 42-year-old man on Wednesday on suspicion of drug trafficking.

The arrest took place at Lorong Salim around 10am, with Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili confirming the operation in a statement. During the raid, law enforcement discovered 25 red-silver tin foils, each containing 10 pills suspected to be Erimin 5, with a gross weight of 80.3 grams and an estimated street value of RM5,000.

Additionally, the team uncovered eight transparent plastic packets filled with crystal lumps, believed to be methamphetamine. These had a combined weight of 12.7 grams and an estimated value of RM1,397.

A vehicle, identified as belonging to the suspect and valued at RM80,000, was also seized during the operation.

“The suspect was brought to the police station, where a urine test confirmed he was positive for drugs,” said ACP Zulkipli.

Further investigations revealed that the man has six prior records related to drug offenses, raising concerns about his long-term involvement in drug-related activities.

The suspect has been remanded for seven days to assist police investigations under Section 39B and Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. If convicted under Section 39B, the suspect could face the death penalty or life imprisonment.

This operation highlights the ongoing commitment of Sibu law enforcement in combating drug-related crimes and protecting the community.
