KUCHING – In an inspiring meeting, Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability, YB Datuk Dr. Hj Hazland bin Abg Hj Hipni, warmly welcomed five representatives of ASEZ, an international volunteer organization, at his office. ASEZ, which stands for “Save the Earth from A to Z,” is comprised of university students from over 7,500 Churches of God in 175 countries. The organization aims to share the love of a mother with communities facing disasters, hardships, and other challenges, while striving to protect the global environment and enhance human welfare.
ASEZ engages in a variety of activities, including crime prevention, climate change response, community service, and disaster relief. These initiatives are designed to create a safer world, build a sustainable future, promote inclusive societies, and provide aid for resilient communities.
One notable recent activity by ASEZ in Malaysia was the “Reduce Crime Together” project. On August 20, 2023, 135 ASEZ members participated in a large-scale street cleanup in Kuala Lumpur, emphasizing community collaboration for a safer and cleaner environment. The project received enthusiastic support from local residents, showcasing the transformative power of youth-led initiatives.
Another significant event was the “ASEZ Blue Carbon” campaign held at Westlake Park in Selangor on May 5, 2024. This campaign highlighted the importance of marine ecosystem conservation and the role of blue carbon in mitigating climate change. ASEZ members teamed up with the local community to clean the park and raise awareness about environmental protection.
Additionally, ASEZ’s global campaign, “Zero Plastic 2040,” aligns with the international community’s goal to eliminate plastic pollution by 2040. University student volunteers across 175 countries are driving radical and sustainable solutions to tackle the global plastic crisis, focusing on campuses and communities worldwide. The campaign emphasizes both individual actions and global partnerships, aiming to build a world free of plastic pollution by 2040 and pave the way for a healthier and more sustainable future.
The objectives of the “Zero Plastic 2040” initiative include hosting campaigns and forums to raise public awareness, promoting actions for recycling, reusing, repurposing, and diversifying plastic usage, organizing local community projects to address plastic pollution directly, and supporting the creation of effective international agreements through advocacy campaigns.
Through these initiatives, ASEZ continues to lead in addressing plastic pollution and building a sustainable future for generations to come.
