Tragic Road Accident Claims Life of Young Motorcyclist in Kota Samarahan

KOTA SAMARAHAN (Feb 4): A 22-year-old female motorcyclist tragically lost her life today after being run over by an oil tanker following a rear-end collision with a car near KM13 Kota Samarahan-Tabuan Jaya.

Kota Samarahan police chief DSP Jaimi Husin said the fatal accident occurred around 1.05pm. The victim was travelling from Kuching towards Kota Samarahan when the unfortunate incident took place.

“The victim collided with the rear of a car that was slowing down for a red traffic light. The impact caused her to fall into the left lane, where she was run over by an oncoming oil tanker,” Jaimi said in a statement.

Medical personnel pronounced the woman dead at the scene. Her body was later transported to the hospital for further examination and procedures.

Police have classified the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

The police reminded motorists to always stay alert and maintain a safe distance while driving, especially near intersections and traffic lights, to prevent accidents.

The tragedy serves as a solemn reminder of the importance of road safety and caution, particularly for motorcyclists, who are more vulnerable to severe injuries in traffic incidents.
