MUKAH – The National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) in Mukah District arrested 65 individuals during the preventive OPS conducted from 12 to 14 May 2026, highlighting the agency’s intensified efforts to combat drug abuse in the region.
The operation, which involved 15 officers and members, targeted several areas across the division. Arrests were made in five key locations: Daro recorded the highest number, with 20 individuals, followed by Bruit Island with 17, Tanjung Manis with 11, Belawai with 10, and Rajang with seven.
Preliminary urine screenings revealed that 41 individuals tested positive for methamphetamine, 23 for ketum, and one for cannabis.
The detainees comprised 60 men and five women aged between 20 and 64. Among those arrested were retirees and former civil servants, underscoring the wide demographic affected by substance abuse.
All arrests were made under Section 3(1) of the Drug and Substance Abusers (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983.
The law provides for treatment and rehabilitation measures alongside enforcement, reflecting Malaysia’s dual approach to addressing drug-related issues.
AADK Mukah emphasised that enforcement operations such as OPS Prevent will continue to be strengthened periodically to safeguard community well-being.
Officials noted that the operation was not only about enforcement but also about raising awareness of the dangers of drug abuse and encouraging voluntary rehabilitation.
The agency reiterated its call for individuals struggling with addiction to seek help through community-based or institutional rehabilitation services.
In line with Malaysia’s decriminalisation approach, voluntary rehabilitation allows individuals to continue their daily lives while receiving treatment, reducing stigma and promoting reintegration into society.
AADK highlighted that OPS Prevent is part of a broader strategy to protect fisheries, rural communities, and urban areas from the social and economic consequences of drug abuse.
By combining enforcement with education and rehabilitation, the agency aims to reduce the prevalence of substance misuse and foster a healthier environment for residents.
For those seeking assistance, AADK provides support through its toll-free line at 1-800-22-2235 or via WhatsApp at 019-626-2233.
The agency encouraged families and communities to play an active role in supporting individuals affected by addiction, reinforcing the collective responsibility of safeguarding public health and safety.
