SIBU – The Sibu District National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) has detained four individuals during a targeted operation aimed at tackling substance abuse in the district. The arrests were made on the night of 25 April 2026 as part of Operation Cegah Bilangan 12.
The suspects comprised one man and three women aged between 32 and 53. Police confirmed that all four tested positive for methamphetamine, commonly known as syabu, following initial urine screening.
The arrests were carried out under Section 3(1) of the Drug and Substance Abusers and Addicts (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983.
Eight AADK officers were involved in the enforcement exercise, which forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Act 283.
The legislation places emphasis not only on enforcement but also on treatment and rehabilitation, reflecting a holistic approach to addressing drug-related issues.
AADK officials explained that the operation was designed to break the cycle of drug abuse at the grassroots level.
By combining strict enforcement with rehabilitation programmes, the agency aims to reduce the prevalence of addiction and provide individuals with opportunities to recover.
