KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was paid a courtesy call at the Parliament building by Malaysian Council of Senators President Datuk Seri Khairudin E.S. Abd Samad. The dialogue was focused on the Council’s role in enhancing governance and advancing Malaysia’s national development agenda.
The PM underscored the role of the Council of Senators in checking the quality of legislation. It ensures institutions build a solid legal base to preserve policies of the government, under the MADANI framework.
“We also discussed our perspective on what was the strategic function of DN in maintaining the quality of national laws so that policies from the government MADANI could be implemented based on strong legal ground,” said Anwar.
The Majlis Senator Malaysia (Malaysian Senate) consists of members appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the advice of the Prime Minister and hold office at His Majesty’s discretion. Formed to enhance the dignity of the Senate, the list is a forum for senators to advance democratic initiatives and legislative changes.
