PM Anwar Highlights Sabah’s Rights and Development in Youth Dialogue

KOTA KINABALU – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim began his latest visit to Sabah with a youth-centred dialogue at the International Technology and Commercial Centre (ITCC) in Penampang, underscoring the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing long-standing issues faced by the state.

The programme, titled Temu Anwar: Harapan Urang Muda Sabah, brought together young people and community members for direct engagement with the Prime Minister.

In his address, Anwar reaffirmed that the government has allocated RM17 billion specifically for Sabah in 2025, a move he said reflects the administration’s determination to resolve persistent challenges such as unreliable water supply, electricity shortages, damaged roads, and weak internet coverage.

Touching on the sensitive issue of Pemberian Khas Sabah, which guarantees the state 40 per cent of federal revenue collected within its borders, Anwar clarified that the Federal Government has not appealed against Sabah’s constitutional entitlement.

Instead, he announced that formal negotiations with the Sabah Government will begin next Monday to implement the ruling.

He explained that the only appeal lodged relates to what he described as “serious allegations” contained in the High Court’s judgment against successive federal and state governments since 1974.

Anwar stressed that the MADANI Government remains committed to honouring Sabah’s rights while recognising the contributions of past leaders who served the state.

The Prime Minister also cautioned Sabahans, particularly the youth, against being swayed by what he termed “distorted narratives” from political opponents.

He argued that those who failed to resolve Sabah’s problems during their time in power are now attempting to portray themselves as champions of the people. “We do not engage in cheap politics; we are repairing the damage they left behind,” he said.

Anwar’s remarks emphasised unity across Malaysia’s diverse communities and states. He noted that safeguarding Sabah’s rights is not only about fairness but also about elevating Malaysia’s standing as a nation.

“With the unity of all races and all states, we are not only defending Sabah’s rights but also raising Malaysia’s dignity to a higher level, Insya-Allah,” he declared.

The visit, which comes ahead of the 17th Sabah State Election, is seen as both politically significant and socially symbolic.

By engaging directly with young Sabahans and pledging concrete measures on infrastructure and rights, Anwar sought to reinforce trust in the Federal Government’s commitment to the state’s future.
