BETONG – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Betong District responded swiftly to a fallen tree incident on Jalan Kubal Lidong on Wednesday, 7 May 2026, following a report from Sarawak Energy.
The emergency call highlighted that a rubber tree had collapsed across the main access road, obstructing vehicles and cutting off entry to a nearby longhouse.
Recognising the potential risks to residents and road users, APM Betong immediately mobilised a team to the site.
Upon arrival, officers confirmed that the fallen tree had completely blocked the route. Equipped with specialised cutting tools, the team began clearing operations.
Longhouse residents also joined the effort, assisting in removing debris to ensure the road could be reopened quickly.
The operation was carried out smoothly, with the tree cut into manageable sections before being removed from the roadway.
By the end of the exercise, the path was fully restored, allowing vehicles to pass safely. Authorities confirmed that no injuries or casualties were reported during the incident.
Local observers noted that the rapid response prevented prolonged disruption for the community. The reopening of the road was particularly important for longhouse residents who rely on the route for daily travel and access to essential services.
APM Betong emphasised its commitment to safeguarding public safety and maintaining readiness for emergencies.
Officials reiterated that the force remains on standby to respond to incidents ranging from fallen trees and wildlife encounters to medical emergencies and natural disasters.
The case highlights the importance of community cooperation during emergencies. By working alongside APM personnel, residents helped ensure the situation was resolved efficiently.
Such collaboration reflects the resilience of rural communities in Sarawak, where collective action often plays a crucial role in overcoming unexpected challenges.
As Sarawak continues to experience seasonal weather changes, authorities have reminded the public to remain vigilant and report hazards promptly.
Fallen trees, particularly in rural areas, can pose significant risks to both motorists and residents if not addressed quickly.
The successful handling of the Jalan Kubal Lidong case demonstrates the effectiveness of APM Betong’s preparedness and the value of strong ties between emergency services and local communities.
