LUNDU – The Lundu District Civil Defence Force responded swiftly to an emergency call in the early hours of Sunday, 3 May 2026, after a snake was reported outside a residential property.
The District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) received the call at 12.04 am from a member of the public who reported the presence of a black velvet snake in front of their home.
The complainant immediately contacted APM Lundu for assistance, prompting officers to be dispatched to the scene.
Civil Defence personnel arrived prepared to handle the situation, ensuring the safety of the household and surrounding area.
The reptile was successfully captured, preventing any potential harm to residents. Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported during the operation.
The Civil Defence Force highlighted the importance of community vigilance in reporting such incidents. Snakes are known to enter residential areas, particularly in rural districts, where vegetation and natural habitats are close to human settlements. Quick reporting enables emergency services to act promptly and reduce risks.
Officials reminded residents that snakes, including venomous species, can pose serious threats if not handled correctly. They urged the public to avoid attempting to capture or kill snakes themselves, as this could lead to dangerous encounters.
Instead, residents should immediately contact the Civil Defence Force or dial the national emergency line for professional assistance.
The Lundu Civil Defence team reiterated their commitment to responding “ready, fast and with integrity”, reflecting their operational motto.
They also encouraged residents to remain cautious during the current season, as wildlife encounters are more frequent due to changing weather conditions.
Community leaders praised the professionalism of the Civil Defence officers, noting that their rapid intervention reassured residents and prevented potential harm.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of strong cooperation between the public and emergency services.
For emergencies, residents are advised to call 999, which connects directly to police, fire, hospital, and civil defence services. The Lundu Civil Defence Office also remains available for direct contact in handling local cases.
