MATU – A python was successfully captured by the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Muut Sekaan Besar Village, Matu, after residents reported the reptile inside a home on Friday, 17 April 2026.
The District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) of APM Matu received an emergency call from the public concerning a snake spotted on a window curtain.
Responders quickly mobilised to the location, where the complainant directed them to the reptile’s position. Equipped with specialised tools, the team carried out a careful operation to secure the animal.
The python, estimated to measure around three metres in length, was safely restrained and removed from the property. Officials confirmed that the situation was brought under control without incident.
The Civil Defence Force stated that the snake was taken away for further action, ensuring that it would not pose a threat to residents in the area.
The operation concluded smoothly, and the team returned to base after confirming the environment was safe.
Wildlife encounters such as this are not uncommon in rural parts of Sarawak, where snakes often enter residential areas in search of food or shelter.
Authorities have repeatedly reminded the public to avoid handling such animals themselves and to contact emergency services immediately when sightings occur.
The APM continues to play a vital role in safeguarding communities against unexpected hazards, ranging from wildlife intrusions to natural disasters.
Their swift response in Matu highlights the importance of vigilance and preparedness in protecting households from potential danger.
Residents are encouraged to remain alert and to report similar incidents promptly. The APM Matu District Operations Centre can be reached at 084-832208 for emergencies requiring immediate assistance.
