MUKAH – The Mukah District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) responded to an emergency call on 6 May 2026 after a viper was discovered inside a residential living room.
The incident was reported by a member of the public, who feared for the safety of his household. The Civil Defence Force (APM) Mukah immediately dispatched a team to the location.
Using specialised pinning techniques, officers successfully captured the snake, which measured approximately half a metre in length.
Authorities confirmed that the situation was brought under control swiftly, with no injuries or damage reported.
The safe removal of the reptile ensured that the residence was secured and the family could return to normal activities without further concern.
Officials reminded residents that snakes are common in Sarawak’s tropical environment and can occasionally enter homes in search of food or shelter.
The public is strongly advised not to attempt handling snakes themselves, as improper action could endanger both people and the animal. Instead, emergency services should be contacted immediately for assistance.
APM Mukah expressed gratitude to the community for reporting the case promptly, noting that such cooperation is vital in ensuring safety.
The organisation reiterated its commitment to its motto “APM Mukah, Nang Steady” and encouraged residents to remain vigilant against wildlife intrusions.
For emergencies, APM Mukah can be reached at 084-872-814, available 24 hours a day, or through the national emergency line 999.
This case highlights the importance of rapid response and community awareness in managing wildlife encounters, ensuring both public safety and humane handling of animals.
