SPAOH – The Spaoh District Civil Defence Force successfully captured a 14-foot python in Kampung Hulu Serembang on Sunday, 3 May 2026, following a public report of the reptile’s presence near a residential property.
The District Operations Control Centre received the emergency call at 11.03 am from a resident who stated that his neighbour had encountered the snake while cleaning his yard.
Acting on the information, the Alpha Squad, led by Sergeant (PA) Kamarrul Bin Badarudin, was deployed with three other members. The team utilised a 4×4 ambulance and specialised snake-catching equipment to reach the location.
Upon arrival, officers conducted a safety inspection of the area before locating the python in bushes in front of the victim’s house.
The reptile, measuring approximately 14 feet in length, was successfully captured using the snaring method.
Sergeant Kamarrul confirmed the details of the operation, stating, “Upon arriving at the location, members found the subject, which was a python, in the bushes in front of the victim’s house. The reptile, which was about 14 feet long, was successfully captured using the snaring method.”
The python was later transported to the District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) for further action. Authorities reported that no injuries occurred during the operation, either to the Civil Defence members or the public.
This marks the second successful python capture by APM Spaoh within a short period. At the end of April, officers managed to secure a 20-foot python, demonstrating the team’s readiness and capability in handling wildlife encounters.
Civil defence officials highlighted the importance of community vigilance in reporting such incidents. They reminded residents that snakes, particularly large pythons, can pose serious risks if not handled professionally.
The public was urged to avoid attempting to capture reptiles themselves and instead contact emergency services for assistance.
The Spaoh Civil Defence Force reaffirmed its operational commitment to act “ready, fast, with integrity”, underscoring their dedication to community safety.
They also encouraged residents to remain alert, especially during the current season when wildlife encounters are more frequent due to environmental changes.
For emergencies, residents may contact the Spaoh Civil Defence office at 083-473-006 or dial 999, which connects directly to police, fire, hospital, and Civil Defence services.
