Archery Athletes Praise Facilities and Cultural Exchange at BGK 2025

KUCHING – Archery athletes competing in the Borneo Games Kuching (BGK) 2025 have spoken highly of the event’s organisation and facilities, describing it as both a competitive platform and a chance to forge new friendships while experiencing cultural diversity.

For East Kalimantan athlete Rohani Sephia Ananda Hatta, the games mark her first international outing since she began archery in 2013.

She said the experience was memorable as she could discover Sarawak’s food, culture and environment while still communicating easily due to the shared language.

“I was also able to learn about the culture, food and new atmosphere in Sarawak,” she said after her event at the Shooting Range on Friday. She added that the facilities for athletes were comfortable and well-prepared.

From Labuan, Rizal Roslin echoed the positive sentiments, calling the arrangements among the best he has encountered.

He highlighted the accommodation, meals, transport, and assistance from officers as being well-coordinated, thanking the Sarawak Government for its support.

Meanwhile, Sarawak’s own Jaccard Lee, originally from Miri, expressed pride in representing his state, especially after moving from volleyball to archery three years ago.

He commended the training provided and said the government’s commitment to developing the sport was clear.

Sabah athlete Davian Jayden Chin, also three years into the sport, admitted he initially felt nervous about facing foreign athletes but found the experience motivating. “This experience is quite fun and gives me new energy,” he said.

Athletes from across the region agreed that the Borneo Games should continue in future as they not only nurture new sporting talent but also foster stronger ties among communities across Borneo.
