KUCHING – Astana Sarawak hosted a 2026 gathering with representatives of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) on Wednesday, bringing together community groups and associations to strengthen cooperation and engagement.
The Astana Sarawak Friendship Meeting with NGOs was held at 3pm at the Dewan Santapan Surau, Astana Sarawak, on 26 August.
The event was attended by representatives from various NGOs, institutions, community clubs and associations from across Sarawak. The gathering provided an opportunity for participants to meet with representatives of Astana Sarawak and discuss the role of community organisations in supporting social initiatives.
YBhg. Tuan Haji Junih bin Salleh Ahmad, Private Secretary to His Excellency the Governor of Sarawak, attended the event on behalf of the Senior Private Secretary to the Governor of Sarawak and delivered the welcoming address.
In his speech, he expressed appreciation to the NGO representatives for attending the gathering and contributing to the success of the event.
He also highlighted the contribution of NGOs to community support structures, particularly through programmes and activities intended to benefit communities across Sarawak.
According to his message, NGOs can serve as strategic partners in carrying out initiatives with a direct impact on the people. Their involvement can also help connect community groups with institutions associated with Astana Sarawak.
The gathering also underscored the role of civil society organisations in fostering interaction between different sections of the community. Such engagement was described as important in promoting unity, harmony and a sense of togetherness.
Among the organisations represented at the event were the Sarawak Women’s Association, Foochianz Recreational Sports Club, Kuching Samariang Love Squad and Kuching Rehlah Community.
Other participating organisations included the Association of Descendants and Heirs of Pengiran Sarawak, Sarawak Writers Association (PERPES), Bako National School PTA and Muara Tebas National School PIBG.
Community clubs and associations from various parts of Sarawak also took part in the gathering, reflecting the range of groups involved in local community activities.
The event forms part of efforts to maintain engagement between Astana Sarawak and NGOs, with community organisations playing a role in identifying needs and supporting activities at the local level.
The Astana Sarawak-NGO engagement is expected to continue as a platform for developing cooperation between institutions and civil society groups. Organisers said sustained collaboration could contribute to community well-being, social harmony and the broader development of Sarawak.
The gathering also provided an avenue for representatives from different organisations to strengthen their networks and maintain communication with one another.
