Awang Tengah Urges Unity and Openness at Lawas Pre-Christmas Event

LAWAS – Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan has called on the community to embrace openness and mutual understanding as vital principles in navigating today’s global challenges, particularly within a multi-racial and multi-religious society.

He delivered the message during the Pre-Christmas Ceremony organised by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Ba’kelalan Branch, held at the Lawas Closed Hall last Friday. The event served as a platform to strengthen unity and foster harmony among the local population.

Awang Tengah emphasised that festive occasions provide opportunities for people to unite as one family, regardless of race, culture, or faith.

“The Christmas message of love, hope and generosity is in line with the teachings of all religions which emphasise respect, justice and peace. Therefore, I urge the community to continue to practice an open attitude and mutual understanding in facing the challenges of today’s world,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude for Sarawak’s continued progress, attributing it to visionary leadership and the stability of the state government.

According to him, these factors align with the long-term development direction that has ensured consistent growth and prosperity for the state.

Awang Tengah further encouraged young people to uphold values of cooperation, trust, and determination in their efforts to build a brighter future.

He stressed that the youth play a crucial role in driving Sarawak’s development and ensuring the well-being of the nation.

The Pre-Christmas celebration was marked by vibrant performances, including cultural dances, choir presentations, and Christmas carols.

The active participation of the Lawas community reflected the spirit of togetherness and inclusivity that the event sought to promote.

The ceremony highlighted Sarawak’s broader commitment to fostering unity across diverse communities.

By combining cultural celebration with messages of openness and sustainability, the event reinforced the importance of shared values in building a resilient and harmonious society.
