SPAOH – A household in Kampung Bungin, Spaoh, experienced an unexpected disturbance on 7 July when a baby lizard was discovered inside a bedroom.
The incident prompted a swift response from the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Spaoh. The complainant, Mr Nafiz, contacted the authorities immediately after spotting the reptile in his private room.
APM Spaoh confirmed that the call was received at 2.17pm, and three members of the Bravo Squad were dispatched to the location to conduct a wild animal capture operation.
Upon arrival, the team identified a baby lizard measuring approximately 1.5 feet (46 centimetres) in length. Using the pincer technique, the officers successfully secured the reptile without causing harm.
The operation was completed under control, and the lizard was later released into a safer habitat away from residential areas.
APM Spaoh highlighted that the incident was managed smoothly, with no injuries reported among residents or personnel.
The agency reminded the public to remain vigilant, particularly during unpredictable weather conditions, which often drive wild animals to seek shelter in homes.
Officials stressed that residents should avoid attempting to capture reptiles or other wildlife themselves, as such actions could pose risks of injury.
Instead, the public is advised to contact emergency services via the 999 hotline or reach out directly to the nearest District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) for assistance.
The Spaoh Civil Defence Force reaffirmed its commitment to community safety under its motto “Ready, Fast, With Integrity”.
The team emphasised that trained personnel are equipped to handle wildlife encounters effectively, ensuring both public safety and humane treatment of animals.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of community awareness and cooperation with emergency services.
By reporting wildlife sightings promptly, residents can help prevent potential hazards and ensure that such situations are resolved safely.
