Baby Monitor Lizard Captured Safely by Civil Defence in Kanowit

KANOWIT – A baby lizard was safely captured by the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Kanowit on Sunday afternoon after a resident raised the alarm.

The reptile was found stuck in a fence at a house along Jalan Rantau Kemiding. Weighing about two kilograms and measuring roughly three feet long, it drew concern from the homeowner. APM Kanowit officers arrived at 3.30pm and used snake tongs to remove it without harming the animal.

The operation ended smoothly, with no injuries or property damage reported. Officers confirmed the area was safe once the lizard was secured.

Wildlife sightings in residential neighbourhoods are common in Sarawak, especially in towns surrounded by forest. Experts advise residents not to handle wild animals on their own, as improper methods lead to injury. Calling trained responders protects both the public and the animal.

APM continues to serve as a first responder for emergencies ranging from floods to wildlife cases. Known as “Wira Biru,” the agency reaffirmed its commitment to community safety and reminded residents to report unusual sightings promptly.

The APM Kanowit hotline operates кругл the clock at 013-8150312. In emergencies, the public should call 999.

This case shows how quick reporting and coordinated action keep neighbourhoods safe, especially in a state rich in wildlife like Sarawak.
