KUCHING: Batu Kawa has made its mark with the successful organisation of the Batu Kawa RELA Run 2026, the first community run ever organised by the Department of Malaysia Volunteers (RELA) in the country. The event stands as a proud moment not only for Batu Kawa but also for RELA Malaysia, showing how community spirit and volunteerism can come together in a meaningful way.

More than 700 participants took part in the run, showing strong support from the public. People from different backgrounds joined in, creating a lively and united atmosphere. In his speech, Dr Sim shared his pride in seeing Batu Kawa host such an important event. He thanked the Batu Kawa RELA Committee for their effort and initiative in making it happen. He pointed out that a strong community is not only built with development, but also with people who care, take part, and support one another.

He also highlighted the long-standing role of RELA in helping maintain public safety and supporting communities during times of need. This event, he said, shows that RELA can also take the lead in organising activities that promote a healthy lifestyle while bringing people closer together.

Dr Sim added that he hopes to see Batu Kawa continue to grow as a safe, active, and welcoming place. Events like this not only encourage people to stay active but also help to showcase the unity and diversity of the local community.

The event was further strengthened by the presence of RELA’s top leadership, including Director General Datuk Rosli Yaakub and RELA Sarawak Director Abang Zulfikar Abang Raduan. Their attendance showed strong support for the initiative and gave encouragement to the organisers and volunteers who worked hard behind the scenes.

He shared that the event created a positive space for residents, families, youth, and various organisations to connect and take part in something meaningful.

Media partner Sarawak Daily also played a key role in the success of the event. Through its online platforms and social media, the event reached a wider audience. The Sarawak Daily CEO was present during the programme, adding further support and value to the event.

With such a strong response, there is hope that the Batu Kawa RELA Run will become a regular event in the future. It has already proven that when a community comes together, it can create something impactful and lasting.

In conclusion, the Batu Kawa RELA Run 2026 is more than just a running event. It is a symbol of unity, volunteer spirit, and the power of community. It sets a strong example for similar initiatives across Malaysia.
