On 18 January 2026, BDA PHE Section geared up 65 poura karmikas to carry out cleaning drives. The drive included public places, drains, roads and other areas where floodwaters receded.

The move was taken as an interim measure to minimize the risk of contagious diseases and to restore a clean environment for the public, officials said. Floods can create debris, standing water and waste that sometimes becomes a health hazard if left unaddressed.

The cleaning works included clearing blocked drains, removing mud and waste from roads, and sanitising public spaces to ensure they are safe for use. BDA emphasised that the operation was part of its wider responsibility to protect public health and maintain environmental standards in flood-affected areas.

Community members expressed appreciation for the swift response, noting that the clean-up efforts helped restore normalcy and reduce anxieties about post-flood conditions. The presence of BDA teams in Sebauh was seen as a reassurance that local authorities are committed to supporting residents during recovery.

BDA reaffirmed its commitment to continue working closely with relevant agencies and the local community to ensure that affected areas are returned to a clean and safe state. The authority highlighted that collaboration is key to maintaining welfare and resilience in the face of natural disasters.
