Representatives from the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) from both the Betong Division and headquarters, the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department, BDDA, and project consultants were also in attendance.

Discussions focused on proposed upgrades to the Debak District New Mosque. Among the improvements being considered are the construction of a minaret, the expansion of parking facilities, and landscaping works around the mosque compound.

These enhancements aim to provide greater comfort for worshippers while strengthening the mosque’s role as a centre for community activities.

Participants highlighted the need for careful technical planning to ensure the project is implemented smoothly and efficiently. The engagement session also provided an opportunity for all parties to share feedback, ensuring the development aligns with the needs and expectations of the local community.

The proposed minaret is expected to become a prominent architectural feature, symbolising the mosque’s presence in Debak.

Meanwhile, improved parking facilities would help reduce congestion during busy prayer times and community gatherings. Landscaping upgrades are also planned to create a more welcoming and pleasant environment around the mosque.

BDDA development projects across Sarawak aim to strengthen infrastructure and community facilities while delivering long-term benefits. The initiative involving the Debak mosque reflects this broader goal by integrating religious, social, and cultural functions in a shared community space.

The session underscored the importance of collaboration between government agencies, religious authorities, and technical consultants. Such cooperation helps ensure that development projects meet technical standards while also addressing the needs of the communities they serve.
