PAKAN – A major operation was carried out in the Pakan Quartet area after residents reported the presence of a large beehive near their homes.
The hive, described as being comparable in size to a household rubbish bin, posed a potential risk to the community.
Responding to the call, members of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) deployed Charlie Squad to the location.
Personnel were equipped with protective clothing and specialised spraying equipment to ensure the safe removal of the hive.
The team worked methodically to neutralise the threat, prioritising the safety of both the complainant and surrounding residents.
The operation was conducted under strict safety protocols, with officers wearing full personal protective equipment (PPE).
The use of chemical spray techniques allowed the team to dismantle the hive without causing harm to the public.
Once the removal was complete, the site was declared safe by the rescue personnel before the squad returned to the District Operations Control Centre (PKOD).
Local authorities emphasised that such interventions are vital in preventing injuries and maintaining public safety. Large hives can pose serious risks, particularly to individuals with allergies to bee stings.
In recent years, similar operations have been reported across Sarawak, reflecting the importance of rapid response teams in managing wildlife-related hazards.
Residents in rural and semi-urban areas often encounter insect nests near homes, schools, and public facilities.
Experts note that climate conditions, including prolonged periods of rain followed by dry spells, can encourage hive formation in populated areas.
The presence of large hives near residential zones has led to increased vigilance by local authorities.
The Civil Defence Force continues to remind the public to report any sightings of dangerous wildlife or insect nests immediately. Early reporting allows trained personnel to intervene before the situation escalates.
Community members are also advised not to attempt removal themselves, as improper handling can provoke aggressive behaviour from insects and lead to serious injury.
This latest operation highlights the readiness of APM units across Sarawak to respond to emergencies ranging from natural disasters to wildlife encounters.
Their commitment to safeguarding communities remains a cornerstone of public safety efforts in the region. The squad’s motto, “Ready Fast with Integrity”, reflects the values guiding their work.
Officials reiterated that maintaining safety standards and responding swiftly to emergencies are essential in protecting lives and ensuring community confidence in local rescue services.
