KUCHING: The Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) Trinity Hub Church has received an allocation of RM120,000 from the Sarawak Government through the Unit For Other Religions (UNIFOR), reinforcing the state’s long-standing commitment to religious harmony and inclusive development.
The allocation cheque was presented by Batu Kitang Assemblyman Dato Ir Lo Khere Chiang during a ceremony held in Kuching on Sunday. The event was attended by church leaders, congregation members and local community representatives, reflecting the close relationship between the government and religious organisations in Sarawak.
In his speech, Dato Lo reaffirmed that the Sarawak Government remains firm in its approach of respecting and supporting all religions practised in the state. He said Sarawak’s strength has always come from its unity in diversity, where people of different beliefs live and work together in mutual respect. According to him, initiatives such as UNIFOR allocations are practical steps taken by the government to ensure that no community is left behind.
Dato Lo explained that the contribution to BEM Trinity Hub Church is part of the government’s continuous support for the development of non-Muslim houses of worship. He noted that such assistance helps improve facilities, ensures better comfort and accessibility for worshippers, and allows religious institutions to play a more active role in serving their surrounding communities. He added that when religious centres are well maintained, they become safe and welcoming spaces not only for worship but also for social and community activities.
He also stressed the importance of cooperation and harmony in a multi-religious society like Sarawak. Dato Lo said that understanding and respect between different religious groups are essential for long-term peace and social stability. He pointed out that government support for religious institutions sends a clear message that unity and mutual understanding remain key priorities in the state’s development agenda.
Representatives from BEM Trinity Hub Church expressed their appreciation for the allocation, describing it as timely and meaningful. The church plans to use the funds for various development projects, including upgrading existing facilities, improving accessibility for elderly and disabled congregants, and supporting community-based programmes. These activities are aimed at strengthening ties among church members and the wider local community.
The UNIFOR allocation once again highlights Sarawak’s inclusive approach to governance, where religious harmony is preserved through action rather than words. As development continues across the state, such initiatives are expected to further strengthen trust, cooperation and unity among Sarawakians of all faiths.
