Sri Aman Benak Festival 2025 Offers RM135,560 in Prizes

Sri Aman Benak Festival 2025 Offers RM135,560 in Prizes

SRI AMAN – The 22nd edition of the Benak Festival, scheduled from September 19–21, 2025, is set to feature a record prize pool of RM135,560 for regatta participants, underscoring its growth as a premier cultural and sporting event in Sarawak.

The festival, centred on the unique tidal bore phenomenon of the Batang Lupar River, will include boat races, cultural performances, and entrepreneurial exhibitions.

Lingga Assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor highlighted the increased rewards, noting that the coveted Raja Sungai (River King) title now carries a cash prize of RM25,000, a significant rise from previous years.

Over 20 teams from across Sarawak are expected to compete in the regatta, which remains the festival’s cornerstone event. The soft launch on September 19 was attended by officials including Sri Aman Resident Mahra Salleh and District Officer Shariff Bujang.

The festival will also feature 609 vendor lots for local SMEs, offering food, beverages, and services to an anticipated influx of visitors. This initiative aims to boost regional economic activity and support community-based tourism.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will officiate the opening ceremony on September 20, while the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar will preside over the closing on September 21.

With enhancements such as restructured bazaars, additional facilities, and digital platforms for visitor engagement, the 2025 festival seeks to elevate Sri Aman’s profile as a key tourism destination while celebrating natural heritage and local talent.
