Asajaya, Sarawak – A digital empowerment programme aimed at strengthening rural entrepreneurs has successfully taken place in Asajaya, bringing new opportunities for small business owners to grow in the modern digital economy. The “Bengkel Kamek Digital: Empowering Asajaya Entrepreneurs” was held on 20 June 2026 through a strategic collaboration between the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation and Angkatan Zaman Mansang Sarawak, with support from the Sarawak Digital Champion initiative.
The programme gathered 32 local entrepreneurs from various small business backgrounds. They took part in hands-on sessions designed to improve digital literacy, strengthen online business knowledge, and encourage the use of digital platforms for business expansion. The focus was clear: help local entrepreneurs adapt to the fast-changing digital marketplace.
Participants were introduced to practical digital tools, online marketing techniques, and strategies to improve visibility on social media and e-commerce platforms. Trainers also highlighted the importance of digital transformation in ensuring businesses remain competitive, especially as consumer behaviour continues to shift towards online purchasing and digital engagement.
Beyond technical skills, the workshop also encouraged participants to think creatively about business growth. Entrepreneurs were guided on how to explore new markets beyond their local areas, use digital platforms to reach wider audiences, and build stronger brand presence online. The interactive nature of the sessions allowed participants to ask questions, share experiences, and learn directly from facilitators.
The initiative reflects ongoing efforts by SDEC and AZAM Sarawak to support grassroots entrepreneurs, particularly in rural communities such as Asajaya. By improving access to digital knowledge and tools, the programme aims to reduce the digital gap and create more balanced economic opportunities across Sarawak.
Speaking on the success of the programme, Nurul Azira Ismail, Sarawak Digital Champion (SDC) for Asajaya, expressed appreciation to all participants and partners involved.
“The encouraging response and active participation from entrepreneurs show strong interest in digital transformation. We hope the knowledge gained will help strengthen their businesses and open new opportunities through digitalisation,” she said.
Organisers also extended their appreciation to all facilitators, partners, and participants whose commitment contributed to the smooth running and success of the programme. They believe that continuous digital education efforts like this will play an important role in building a more resilient and future-ready entrepreneurial community in Sarawak.
As digital adoption continues to grow, initiatives like Bengkel Kamek Digital are expected to become a key driver in empowering local entrepreneurs and strengthening rural economies through technology-driven growth.
