Bintulu Hosts 3,000 Runners for Malaysia Day Unity Run

Bintulu Hosts 3,000 Runners for Malaysia Day Unity Run

BINTULU – Approximately 3,000 participants gathered at the Dewan Suarah Bintulu grounds early this morning to join the Malaysia Day Run 2025, a key event in the state-level celebrations marking Malaysia’s formation.

The run was flagged off by Sarawak Minister of Food Industry, Commodities, and Regional Development, Datuk Seri Dr. Stephen Rundi Utom, who is overseeing the state’s Malaysia Day festivities.

The event began with an aerobics warm-up session, followed by the 6-kilometre run through the town.

The diverse turnout included community members of all ages and backgrounds, reflecting the spirit of unity and patriotism central to Malaysia Day.

Officials present included Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, deputy ministers, local assemblymen, and department heads.

This run is one of several activities leading to the main Malaysia Day celebration tonight, emphasizing health, community bonding, and national pride.

Similar events were held elsewhere in Sarawak, such as a fun walk in Satok, Kuching, which drew hundreds of participants to promote unity and healthy lifestyles.

Malaysia Day, observed annually on September 16, commemorates the 1963 union of Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak, and Singapore (which later separated).

The day highlights national diversity and inclusivity, with calls for equitable development across all regions.
