MUKAH, 30 April 2025 — A shocking discovery was made this morning near the popular Pesta Kaul celebration site when the body of a 27-year-old local man was found lifeless in a forested area close to Pantai Kala Dana.
According to Mukah District Police Chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias, the body was located approximately 150 metres from the main festival grounds, an area typically filled with locals and tourists during the annual cultural event.

Police were alerted at around 10am, and a team was immediately dispatched to investigate the scene. Early findings revealed no signs of struggle, injuries, or any suspicious circumstances that might suggest foul play.
“Initial investigation at the location did not show any signs of criminal elements linked to the man’s death,” DSP Muhamad Rizal confirmed in a media statement today.
The body was later transported to Mukah Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the actual cause of death.
For now, the case has been classified as a sudden death, pending the results of the autopsy. DSP Muhamad Rizal also urged the public to refrain from making assumptions or spreading unverified information while investigations are still ongoing.
The unexpected incident has cast a shadow over the ongoing Pesta Kaul, one of Sarawak’s most important Melanau festivals, celebrated for its spiritual and cultural significance.
Authorities are expected to release further updates once the post-mortem results are obtained.
