KANOWIT, Jan 13 – A couple and their four-month-old baby girl were rescued by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) this morning after being stranded due to flooding at Jalan Lukut-Penyulau.

The family, who were on their way from Sibu to Kanowit Town to deliver vegetables, encountered trouble when the road ahead became impassable due to rising floodwaters. Their vehicle became stuck, leaving them helpless in the early hours of the morning.

Bomba received an emergency call at 6.15am and promptly dispatched a team of firefighters from the Kanowit station to assist. The rescue team arrived at the scene at 6.50am, where they found the floodwater had risen to approximately 1.2 metres.

“The floodwaters were too deep for the family to proceed safely,” said the operations commander. “Our priority was ensuring their immediate safety and transporting them out of harm’s way.”

By 7.33am, the couple and their baby were successfully rescued and brought to a safe location. Despite the ordeal, all three were unharmed and in good spirits.

This incident serves as a reminder for travellers to exercise caution during the monsoon season and to monitor road conditions, particularly in flood-prone areas like Jalan Lukut-Penyulau.
