Boney M Brings Disco Fever to Kuching with Electrifying 50th Anniversary Show

KUCHING, Jan 5: Disco fever swept through Kuching last night (Jan 4) as legendary disco band Boney M lit up the stage at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) during their 50th Anniversary Tour.

Led by original band member Maizie Williams and joined by Kelly Rahman, Samantha Scott, and Doreen Patel, Boney M transported concert-goers back to the golden age of disco. The sold-out event was a night to remember, with fans singing and dancing along to chart-topping hits like “Rasputin,” which recently found renewed fame on TikTok, and the iconic “Daddy Cool.”

For many attendees, the concert was more than just a musical performance—it was a nostalgic trip down memory lane, celebrating the vibrant and funky era of disco.

Sarawak’s Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performance Arts, Dato Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, graced the event and praised its success. “The sold-out concert marks a fantastic start for Sarawak’s tourism and for our ministry’s efforts in 2025,” he said.

Abdul Karim highlighted the Sarawak government’s dedication to boosting the state’s tourism industry, expressing optimism about the ambitious target of welcoming five million visitors in 2025. He noted that the inflow of tourists could potentially generate RM10 billion in revenue, providing a significant economic boost for the region.

“With strong support, more exciting events, and a new airline facilitating connectivity, I am confident that we will achieve our goals,” he added, applauding the efforts of local agencies in promoting Sarawak to both regional and international audiences.

Boney M’s electrifying performance not only reignited the love for disco but also underscored Kuching’s potential as a premier destination for world-class entertainment.
