PADAWAN – The Padawan Municipal Council officially handed over the BP.1 project at Kampung Rimba Segedup on Tuesday, 5 May 2026.
The initiative involved the construction of a reinforced concrete (RC) drain measuring 125 metres in length and 1,200 millimetres in width.
The project, which took four months to complete, was part of ongoing efforts to improve drainage systems in the area.
Proper drainage infrastructure is considered essential in reducing the risk of flooding, enhancing public safety, and supporting sustainable urban development.
Council Chairman Cr Tan Kai, who officiated the ceremony, highlighted the importance of such projects in meeting the needs of local communities.
He noted that effective drainage not only prevents waterlogging but also contributes to better hygiene and environmental management.
Kampung Rimba Segedup, like many other areas in Padawan, has experienced challenges linked to rapid urbanisation and changing weather patterns.
Infrastructure improvements such as the BP.1 project are seen as vital in ensuring that residents benefit from safer and more resilient public facilities.
The Padawan Municipal Council has been actively implementing similar initiatives across its jurisdiction, focusing on upgrading roads, drainage, and other essential amenities.
These projects are aligned with broader goals of enhancing quality of life and supporting long-term development in Sarawak.
The completion and handover of the BP.1 project mark another step in the council’s commitment to strengthening local infrastructure.
Residents of Kampung Rimba Segedup are expected to benefit from improved water flow and reduced risks associated with poor drainage, particularly during heavy rainfall.
The ceremony underscored the council’s dedication to working closely with communities to address pressing infrastructure needs.
By investing in practical solutions such as reinforced concrete drains, the council aims to ensure that development keeps pace with the demands of growing populations and evolving environmental conditions.
