Organisers have confirmed that participants will have the option of running either 3 kilometres or 7 kilometres along a specially prepared route. Registration packages are available at three price points: RM30 for bib and medal, RM40 for bib and T-shirt, and RM50 for the full package including bib, T-shirt, and medal.
Interested runners can register online via Malaysia Runner or manually at Revrun, Green Heights Mall. The deadline for registration is 10 June 2026. The event was formally announced during a press conference at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Media Centre in Petra Jaya.
The session was chaired by Kuching South Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, with Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, Performing Arts, and Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, YB Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, attending as Guest of Honour.
“The running event is entering its second edition, and the organisers are targeting a total of 1,200 participants from around Kuching city, including media friends from various agencies and private companies,” said YB Abdul Karim during the briefing.
The initiative is jointly organised by Revolution Run Borneo, Kuching Happy Runners Club, and the Kuching Division Journalists Association (KDJA), with support from the Commonwealth Journalists Association (CJA). The collaboration highlights the growing role of local organisations in promoting health, fitness, and community engagement through accessible sporting events.
Night runs have become increasingly popular in Malaysia, offering a unique experience for participants to enjoy cooler evening conditions and a festive atmosphere. The Kuching edition aims to combine the excitement of a glowing racetrack with the camaraderie of a community gathering.
Organisers have emphasised that the event is not only about competition but also about encouraging participation across all age groups and fitness levels.
The Breaking News Night Run 2.0 is expected to draw attention to Kuching’s vibrant sports culture while reinforcing Sarawak’s reputation as a hub for creative and community-driven events. With the involvement of journalists’ associations, the run also symbolises the link between media, public engagement, and social well-being.
As the countdown begins, anticipation is building among local runners and fitness enthusiasts. The organisers are confident that the event will deliver both a memorable sporting experience and a celebration of Kuching’s community spirit under the stars.
