KUCHING – Around 70 employees from the Office of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak took part in a brisk walk programme at the Sarawak Astana grounds on 11 February, beginning at approximately 4.30 pm.
The session opened with warm-up exercises led by Cpl Fadhirul Rosli and Cpl Haswan, ensuring participants were physically prepared and safe before embarking on the walk.
The initiative was designed to encourage healthier lifestyles among staff while fostering a sense of unity within the workplace.
Management’s decision to organise the activity reflects a strong commitment to employee welfare, despite the demanding schedules often faced by the office.
By prioritising physical health and mental resilience, the leadership aims to ensure staff remain capable of fulfilling their responsibilities with professionalism and dedication.
Beyond the obvious health benefits, the brisk walk also served as an opportunity to strengthen team spirit.
Such activities provide a relaxed environment where colleagues can bond, reinforcing values of cooperation and togetherness. This contributes to a more harmonious and supportive workplace culture.
Workplace wellness programmes have become increasingly important in Malaysia, with both public and private organisations recognising the link between employee health and productivity.
Regular physical activities, such as walking, are known to reduce stress, improve cardiovascular fitness, and enhance overall morale.
The Sarawak Astana, with its scenic surroundings, offered a fitting backdrop for the event. Participants were able to enjoy the natural environment while engaging in light physical exercise, creating a refreshing break from routine office duties.
Organisers expressed hope that similar initiatives will continue in the future, helping to build a balanced and productive workforce.
By integrating wellness into daily routines, the office aims to cultivate a healthier environment that benefits both staff and the institution as a whole.
The brisk walk programme stands as a reminder that even simple activities can have a significant impact on well-being.
For the Office of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, it was not only a health-focused initiative but also a demonstration of leadership’s commitment to fostering a supportive and resilient workplace.
