Director-General of Health Malaysia Visits Alor Setar City Health Clinic

ALOR SETAR – The Director General of Health, YBhg. Datuk Dr Mahathar bin Abd Wahab recently made an official visit to the Alor Setar City Health Clinic, highlighting the Ministry of Health’s commitment to strengthening healthcare services across Malaysia.

Datuk Dr Mahathar bin Abd Wahab was warmly welcomed by YBrs. Dr Mohd Zukri bin Ibrahim, the Kota Setar District Health Officer, who provided an overview of the clinic’s operations.

Originally established as the Bakar Bata Mother and Child Clinic (KIA Bakar Bata), the facility expanded its services on 1 March 2010 with the opening of the Outpatient Unit in the old hospital building. Today, as the Alor Setar City Health Clinic, it continues to serve the community effectively.

As a Type 1 health clinic, the centre serves a population of 52,128 residents. Its services cover outpatient care, emergency treatment, pharmacy support, maternal and child health, diabetes management, occupational rehabilitation, imaging and diagnostics, laboratory testing, physiotherapy, counselling, dietetics and nutrition, occupational health, and dental care.

During the visit, Datuk Dr Mahathar bin Abd Wahab was briefed on the use of ultra-portable X-ray technology, which is deployed for tuberculosis screening programmes across Kedah and Perlis.

These screenings also reach high-risk areas such as prisons, immigration detention centres, and indigenous villages, reflecting the Ministry’s proactive approach to public health.

He also toured specialised facilities, including the Sexual & Reproductive Health Hub (SRH Hub) and the Diabetic Resource Centre, while reviewing the operational standards of other patient services.

His inspection underscored the importance of delivering healthcare that is efficient, accessible, and responsive to the needs of the community.

The Ministry of Health reaffirmed its dedication to providing quality healthcare nationwide, ensuring all Malaysians have access to comprehensive medical services, regardless of location or background.

This visit reflects ongoing efforts by the Ministry to monitor, evaluate, and enhance healthcare infrastructure, ensuring clinics like the Alor Setar City Health Clinic continue to meet the evolving needs of the population.
