MUKAH – A bush fire that broke out along Jalan Mukah-Igan this morning was swiftly brought under control by the Mukah Fire and Rescue Department (BBP), thanks to their quick and effective response.

Mukah BBP Chief Nicholas Belulin said the department received a distress call at around 9.15am regarding a fire incident along the roadside, prompting immediate deployment of a team to the scene.

“Our team from BBP Mukah, supported by a vehicle and the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) Unit, was dispatched to the location promptly upon receiving the call,” he said in a media statement.

Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed the presence of a bush fire, which was already spreading across dry undergrowth.

“The fire brigade began extinguishing operations using a 600-foot hose line, a branch splitter, and two nozzles connected to the machinery tank as the main water source,” Nicholas added.

Thanks to the crew’s swift coordination and preparedness, the fire – estimated to have scorched about one acre of land – was successfully doused and fully extinguished by 11.35am.

No casualties or injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The operation highlighted the readiness of the fire department in handling open-area fires, especially during the current dry spell.

Authorities are also urging members of the public to avoid any open burning activities, especially during hot weather conditions, to reduce the risk of wildfires.

The fire department continues to monitor the area and remains on high alert for any new fire threats.
