SIBU – The Chiew Cho Methodist Church has received RM60,000 in assistance from the Unit for Other Religious Affairs (UNIFOR) to upgrade toilet facilities and parking areas, ensuring greater comfort for worshippers.
The allocation was announced by Sarawak Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, who said the initiative reflects the State Government’s commitment to providing conducive facilities for non-Muslim houses of worship.
“This is the second time this church has received assistance from UNIFOR. This time, the allocation is used to upgrade toilets and improve parking areas for the use of worshippers,” he explained after attending a fund-raising ceremony at the church on Wednesday.
Dr Annuar noted that the church had previously received RM30,000 under UNIFOR’s first allocation, bringing the total support to RM90,000.
He emphasised that UNIFOR is a unique initiative in Sarawak, demonstrating the government’s concern for all religions and its commitment to fostering unity.
“UNIFOR proves that we practice unity and harmony between multi-racial communities,” he said, highlighting the programme’s role in strengthening social cohesion across the state.
The assistance is part of UNIFOR’s wider mission to support religious institutions in Sarawak by improving infrastructure and facilities, ensuring that worshippers of all faiths can practise in safe and comfortable environments.
Community leaders welcomed the support, noting that the upgrades will enhance accessibility and convenience for churchgoers, while also reflecting the state’s inclusive approach to development.
