Chinese New Year MV in Miri Showcases Unity and Cultural Harmony

MIRI – The launch of the Sarawak Creative Chinese New Year 2026 music video (MV) titled “The Most Beautiful Part of Life Is Reunion” brought festive cheer and a strong message of unity at Boulevard Shopping Centre, Miri, on Friday.

The ceremony was officiated by Dato Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts (Tourism) and Piasau Assemblyman, alongside Adam Yii Siew Sang, Mayor of Miri City and Pujut Assemblyman.

Both leaders surprised the audience by appearing as guest singers in the MV, symbolising togetherness and the spirit of reunion during the Chinese New Year celebration.

The song, composed and written by Cheng Pin Yan, features a line-up of local singers from Miri. Filming took place at several notable locations, including schools and the historic landmark Oil Well No.1 (The Grand Old Lady), adding cultural depth and local identity to the production.

The MV highlights themes of family, longing to return home, and the joy of gathering with loved ones. By incorporating elements of Sarawak’s diverse communities, the production reflects the state’s multicultural harmony and inclusivity.

Dato Sebastian Ting noted that creative projects such as this not only celebrate cultural traditions but also strengthen Sarawak’s creative industry.

He emphasised that the collaboration between leaders, artistes and communities demonstrates how music and art can unite people across different backgrounds.

Mayor Adam Yii echoed the sentiment, stating that the MV represents the shared values of reunion and unity, which are central to the Chinese New Year spirit.

He added that the involvement of leaders alongside local artistes underscores the importance of bridging communities through creative expression.

Observers highlight that initiatives like the Sarawak Creative Chinese New Year MV contribute to the state’s broader vision of promoting cultural tourism and creative industries.

By showcasing Sarawak’s diversity through music and visual storytelling, the project enhances the festive atmosphere while positioning Miri as a hub for creative collaboration.

As Chinese New Year 2026 approaches, the MV is expected to resonate widely with audiences, reinforcing the message that reunion and unity remain the most cherished aspects of the celebration.
