DEBAK – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Debak successfully removed a snake from a residential property after receiving an emergency call from a concerned homeowner.
The incident occurred when the complainant discovered a buffalo rib snake inside the bedroom of their house. Alarmed by the presence of the reptile, the resident contacted APM Debak for immediate assistance.
Upon receiving the report, APM personnel were swiftly deployed to the location to conduct a snake-catching operation.
The team arrived equipped with specialised tools and followed strict safety procedures to ensure the reptile was captured without harm to either the residents or the officers involved.
The snake was found inside the bedroom, believed to have entered the house through nearby bushes or drains.
After a careful search, the team managed to secure the reptile within minutes. It was then safely removed from the property and transported away from the residential area for further action.
APM Debak emphasised that the operation was carried out smoothly, with no injuries reported. The successful capture highlights the importance of community vigilance and the readiness of emergency services to respond to wildlife encounters in residential areas.
Authorities have advised residents to maintain cleanliness around their homes and to seal off potential entry points that could allow wild animals to gain access.
Preventive measures such as clearing bushes, securing drains, and closing gaps in doors or windows can significantly reduce the risk of snakes and other wildlife entering homes.
Snake sightings in Sarawak are not uncommon, particularly in rural and semi-rural areas where natural habitats overlap with human settlements.
While most snakes avoid human contact, species such as the buffalo rib snake can cause alarm when they appear inside homes.
The incident underscores the importance of cooperation between the public and emergency services. Quick reporting ensures that trained personnel can respond effectively, safeguarding both residents and wildlife.
APM Debak reiterated its commitment to public safety, operating under the principles of readiness, speed, and integrity.
Residents are reminded that emergency calls can be directed to 999, which connects to police, fire, hospital, and civil defence services.
