OYA – The Quran Recitation Ceremony held at the Oya Community Hall on Sunday has been hailed as a vital platform for strengthening appreciation and love for the holy book among Muslims in Dalat and Oya.
Minister of Women, Children and Community Wellbeing, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, officiated the opening ceremony and emphasised that the programme was not merely a competition but a meaningful initiative to elevate the Quran in daily life.
“This organisation is not just a competition, but a platform to strengthen appreciation, beautify the recitation and elevate the Quran in daily life,” she said.
Fatimah highlighted that such events serve as a medium to educate, unite and deepen Muslims’ understanding of the guidance of Allah SWT.
She also stressed the importance of strengthening Quran recitation classes in every village to nurture a generation of Quran-literate individuals with noble character and strong adherence to Islamic teachings.
She called for the programme to be continued annually, noting that it provides an opportunity to assess student progress, foster healthy competition and build confidence among participants.
Fatimah also encouraged the community to support the initiative in any capacity – as participants, organisers or contributors – reminding that every effort made for the sake of Allah SWT will be rewarded.
Organised by the PERKIM Dalat/Oya Branch, the annual event has become a catalyst for Quran education in the area. This year, 13 participants from Dalat and Oya took part, comprising PERKIM members and local residents who actively attend recitation classes in their villages.
The ceremony showcased the beauty of Quranic recitation while reinforcing the values of unity, education and spiritual growth. It also reflected Sarawak’s commitment to nurturing religious literacy and strengthening community bonds through faith-based programmes.
