DARO – A total of 1,062 candidates from the N.43 Daro constituency have obtained Class B2 driving licences after completing the required screening, theory and practical tests under a constituency-level driving licence assistance programme.
The licences were presented during a ceremony at Daro Community Hall on Saturday (Sept 26), with the event officiated by N.43 Daro assemblyman Dr Haji Safiee Haji Ahmad.
The programme was carried out through cooperation between the N.43 Daro Service Centre, the Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) and Akademi Memandu Setia Sdn Bhd.
According to information provided on the programme, the 1,062 successful candidates had first gone through the relevant screening process before completing the theory and practical requirements needed to obtain their Class B2 licences.
The initiative is focused on assisting eligible residents in the constituency to complete the formal process of obtaining a driving licence.
A valid licence is required for those who intend to legally operate motorcycles on public roads, while the testing process is designed to assess candidates’ knowledge and practical driving ability.
The presentation ceremony brought together representatives from the organisations involved in delivering the programme.
Among those attending were JPJ Sarawak deputy director Mohamad Faizal David Jemat and Daro district officer Zul Haji Usup.
The involvement of the government department, local constituency service centre and driving academy reflects the multi-agency nature of the programme.
Each organisation has a different role in the process, from administration and regulatory oversight to driver training and testing.
For the successful candidates, obtaining a Class B2 licence provides formal recognition that they have met the required licensing conditions.
It also places responsibility on licence holders to comply with traffic laws and practise safe riding when using public roads.
Road safety remains closely linked to driver education and compliance with regulations. The completion of theory and practical tests forms part of the licensing process intended to ensure new riders understand the rules governing road use and can demonstrate the necessary riding skills.
JPJ Sarawak also expressed appreciation to the organisations, personnel and other parties involved in implementing the programme.
Their cooperation was credited with helping the initiative proceed as planned and enabling the successful candidates to complete the licensing process.
The department said the licences obtained through the programme are expected to be useful to recipients in their daily lives, while stressing that they should be used responsibly.
The completion of the programme marks the latest stage in efforts to help residents in the N.43 Daro constituency meet the formal requirements for obtaining a motorcycle driving licence.
For the 1,062 successful candidates, the outcome means they have completed the prescribed testing process and received their Class B2 licences.
The programme also highlights the importance of ensuring that assistance with access to licensing is accompanied by awareness of legal and road safety responsibilities. Licence holders remain subject to existing traffic rules and regulations when riding on public roads.
