KUCHING – The DBKU City Library, in collaboration with SMK St Teresa, successfully organised the Let’s Read Together for 10 Minutes programme on 22 April 2026.
The initiative was carried out simultaneously at 11.00am across Malaysia, creating a meaningful atmosphere that encouraged the growth of reading culture among communities nationwide.
The ceremony was officiated by Ts. Mohamad Faisal bin Adenan, Deputy Director of Infrastructure Services at DBKU, alongside representatives from the Sarawak State Education Department, Kuching District Education Office, and SMK St Teresa.
Among those present were Mr Les ak Met, Dr Felix Chuo Sing Ting, Mrs Disin anak Nyaom, and Mr Sharul bin Sulaiman, Head of the Information Resource Development Division.
As part of the programme, recognition was given to outstanding readers from DBKU City Library for the year 2025.
Awards were presented across several categories, celebrating individuals who demonstrated consistent commitment to reading. The recipients included:
- Children: Gordon Chong Ho Shiang
- Teenager: Hazel Yena Aleesya binti Abdul Malik Karim
- Adult: Chong Guan Foong
- Elderly: Ahmad bin Olen
- Disabled: Lester Bong Khi Chin
In addition, recognition was extended to active community libraries that played a vital role in promoting reading habits. The winners were:
- Champion: Cathin ak Robert (PK Sungai Maong)
- Runner-up: Zarina bt Ramlee (PK Patingan)
- Third Place: Ikhmal Hisyam bin Rahim (PK Bako)
Organisers highlighted that the programme was designed not only to encourage reading but also to strengthen community engagement through libraries.
By involving schools, education departments, and local institutions, the initiative sought to embed reading as a daily practice among Malaysians of all ages.
The DBKU City Library expressed appreciation to all participants and supporters who contributed to the success of the programme.
Officials emphasised that cultivating a reading culture is essential for personal growth, knowledge development, and the overall progress of society.
