APM Debak Safely Captures Batik Python in Residential Home

DEBAK – The Civil Defence Force (APM) Debak successfully carried out an operation to capture a batik python measuring approximately two and a half feet in length after it was discovered inside a residential property.

The reptile was found in the coin section of a complainant’s house, prompting immediate concern among residents.

Following a call from the public, APM Debak officers were dispatched to the scene to ensure the safety of both the household and the responding team.

Upon arrival, members conducted a thorough inspection of the premises before initiating the capture. The operation was carried out using specialised equipment and safe handling techniques designed to minimise risk.

The python was secured without incident, and no injuries were reported during the process. Once captured, the animal was removed from the residential area and relocated to prevent further disturbance.

Local authorities have reminded residents that snakes, including batik pythons, are occasionally found in homes and villages across Sarawak, particularly in areas close to forested land or water sources. While non-venomous, pythons can still pose a threat if not handled properly.

The Civil Defence Force continues to stress the importance of contacting emergency services rather than attempting to deal with such situations independently.

Trained personnel are equipped with the necessary tools and knowledge to manage wildlife encounters safely.

Wildlife-related incidents have become increasingly common in Sarawak, with reports of snakes entering homes, schools, and shops.

Experts attribute this to habitat changes and the search for food, which often brings reptiles closer to human settlements.

APM Debak has assured residents that it remains committed to safeguarding communities and responding swiftly to emergency calls.

The public is encouraged to remain vigilant and to report any sightings of dangerous or unusual animals to the authorities immediately.

This latest incident highlights the importance of community awareness and the role of emergency responders in maintaining safety across rural districts.
