SARATOK – The dangers of dengue and fire safety must be made known to every level of society and not just to community leaders, said Kabong State Assemblyman (ADUN) Dato Mohd Chee Kadir.

Speaking during the inauguration of the Dengue Awareness & Firefighters Program with the Community held at the Saratok Open Hall on Sunday, Dato Chee stressed the importance of inclusive awareness efforts to ensure the safety and health of all residents.

“Awareness of dengue and fire safety cannot stop at the KMKK level. It must reach every household, especially those in the rural villages,” he said. “This is a collective responsibility that we must all share to ensure the wellbeing of our communities.”

The programme aimed to educate the public on the risks associated with dengue fever, highlighting the elimination of Aedes mosquito breeding grounds and the importance of maintaining a clean environment. It also focused on the public’s role and preparedness before, during, and after fire incidents.

To further support community engagement, Dato Chee presented a Special Grant of RM10,000 from the Sarawak Government to the Saratok District Council Social Welfare and Recreation Club (MARKAS). The grant will support the club’s annual activities, including health and safety initiatives.

The event brought together local leaders, community members, and fire department personnel to foster a sense of shared responsibility in combating public health and safety threats.

Dato Chee’s call for broader public awareness aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to curb dengue cases and improve disaster preparedness, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas.
